Let's Go Yankees!

This past weekend, Seamus and I got to experience our first Yankees game together, at the brand-new stadium! We were invited to go by my friend Liza, her son Shay and Liza's sister Adrienne.
I was SO excited to take Seamus to this game. He is a sports fanatic and has proudly worn his Yankees cap almost daily since he received it last year. I, on the other hand, am a total baseball ignoramus, so heed this warning: From this point on, I may have absolutely no idea what I'm talking about.

Halfway through the game, I had to ask Liza how many outs were in an inning.

She told me, and the sad part is, 36 hours later I can't even remember what she said.

Don't say I didn't warn you :-)

The new stadium is really impressive. However, I had no clue that it was built directly across the street from the old stadium. Was the old stadium really that bad? They couldn't have taken the bazillion dollars that went into the new stadium and just spruced up the old one?
Please, someone enlighten me.

Seamus and the giant pretzel that was bigger than his head (so it was a BIG pretzel!)
Our view from the top (very literally from the top - second to last row!)

The amazing thing is that the temperature dropped about ten degrees with every level we climbed. So up here in the penthouse, it was probably about 50 degrees with hurricane-force winds. But we were having a great time anyway! Here's our crew:

Seamus could not have been more thrilled to be up high. I don't think he would have had as much fun if we were sitting on a lower level!

In the bottom of the 9th inning, Seamus had to use the bathroom and the Yankees were losing, so we headed down the stairs and told our friends we'd meet up with them there. Well apparently there was an outrageous ending to this game and Melky saved the day resulting in a win for the Yanks. That's about all I know.

I apologize immensely.

I promise to do better next time.

When we finally got home after our busy day and long drive, I carried a sleeping Seamus in to his room and put him in bed. He rolled over and opened his eyes, and said "Mommy, it was a fun time at the Yankees." And fell asleep again.

Yes, little man...it was a very fun time at the Yankees!

What a great day and a fun first for Seamus. I love that pretzel picture! How sad you missed the triumphant end! KIDS! :o) but I'm sure Seamus will get to experience many more games and who knows maybe someday you will turn into a baseball expert after all. :o)

Ok Emily....first I am regaining my breath considering these are my beloved Yankees and I am going to be patient because I love you immensely. But here is a slight lesson:
1) Three outs per inning. Three strikes you are out. Four balls you take the base (walk).
2) The old Yankee Stadium across the street was termed the House that Ruth built (Babe Ruth). It had undergone a facelift in the 70's I believe so much of the original work was replaced. The Stadium you went to was modeled on the outside of the original Yankee Stadium before its renovation. I am dying to go to the new park since I watched this staidum go up.
3) Up the street is the Bronx Supreme Court where yours truly would have mnay a court appearances and once did not go bck to the office, instead went to the game.
4) That area of the Bronx used to be sooooo beautiful bu has gone down a bit. There is hope the whole area will revitalize with the new stadium.
5) If this is your take on baseball can I make the assumption football is also not a big hit with you?
6) The bottom of the 9th inning was pretty darn spectacular!
And finally, your son is so gosh darn cute in all his gear! Preston also has that jacket. I love it! I also love the picture of the giant pretzel. So excited to see you guys!!!!

Love the cute pictures of Seamus having the time of his life! I would have been scared to death being that high up (bigtime fear of heights), but Seamus was living it up! Too cute! Wish we could meet you guys later this week in Wilmington, but it doesn't look like we are going to make it. Maybe in November?!!! For now we are just going to have to get our Seamus fix through the blog and FB!!!

What a wonderful memorable experience. Wow, you know even less than myself about baseball...I didn't think that was possible. I have yet to take the kiddos to a pro baseball game. Even having nose bleed seats...you all look like you had the best time.

Knowing much about baseball or not, the most thrilling part must have been seeing how much Seamus loved it! How sweet of him to say thanks when you put him in bed!

So sweet - Seamus waking up just to tell you "it was fun time at the Yankees!" It looks like he had a blast! Love the photos of your handsome sports fan - the one of him holding the huge pretzel is too cute!
We'll miss seeing you guys tomorrow, but we are looking forward to November!

Emily!

I love your post ... and love Kim's comments :0) I grew up in a baseball family, so I had no choice but to understand the game. Adorable pictures of Seamus ... and isn't that cute he was thrilled to be in the nose bleed seats :0)

I'm laughing here too because I couldn't wait to read Kim's comment! I'm also not a baseball fan...while I do understand the game, I find it horribly boring. I have, however, been to 2 games at the old Yankee stadium and I will say that was fun! I love the pictures of you guys at the game and Seamus's pretzel - SOOOO cute!
we are more football/hockey fans down here....

My friend and I were recently discussing about how involved with technology our daily lives have become. Reading this post makes me think back to that discussion we had, and just how inseparable from electronics we have all become.

I don't mean this in a bad way, of course! Ethical concerns aside... I just hope that as the price of memory decreases, the possibility of copying our memories onto a digital medium becomes a true reality. It's one of the things I really wish I could experience in my lifetime.
